The maybe…

My idea comes from listening to a podcast from Overclockers Australia. During their talk, I heard of some interesting experimentation. They talked of IBM laptops with their hard drives having sensors. It’s called the ‘Active Protection System’ for the hard drives of the IBM laptops. So basically, they had set up the system to be able to read the information coming from the system, feeding the numbers which describe the position of the laptop into some software they wrote to become like a ‘joystick’. So now when you play a game tuned to the software, “you pick your laptop up and wave it around”!

After all that, I went to Youtube too look around for maybe a demonstration of this software being used, and what do you know…I found something. Here is a link.

So now, basically the idea for the iPhone is to develop applications which actively use the accelerometers within the iPhone and use them as possibly a primary controller mechanism to navigate around the iPhone’s software. After reading off Wikipedia about the iPhone specifications, it said of a three-axis accelerometer, so I’ll assume they mean the XYZ positions.

There are a lot possible things that could happen I feel, but the thing is, there is already something on the market with what I have in mind; the Wii controller. Since it too contains the accelerometers and the applications for the Wii actively use those accelerometers as primary orientation mechanisms. The difference here is, the iPhone doesn’t cost $60ish and it can do a whole lot more then just to be waved around. Maybe the iPhone could be patched to become a make-shift Wii controller….? xD

Further thought needed.

iWTF

The iPhone, a new Apple based product, looked…’okay’ after today’s lecture. There isn’t really anything new that I havn’t seen, but it did look like one cool gadget. Three-in-one tool of Internet, Mp3 and a Phone…. This thing reminds me of a PDA with more memory and an Ipod stuck in. How ingenious.

The thing that is most interesting, is the interface. Dual touch screen, the phone understanding its orientation, moving from portrait viewing to landscape viewing with a rotation of the iPhone and the integration of everything within the iPhone; one app interconnecting with other apps and vice versa.

The assignment is to develop Web2.0 application for the iPhone. I’m still blank for what to do. High Distinction – simply come up with ‘THE’ idea. Sounds simple, right?

Still a lot more research ahead for the iPhone. Its got a lot of stuff already in it, and yet there is the basis for further for advancement since the technology is available I believe.

Making stuff..work

First blog I have ever made, and using WordPress. This is a nice looking, and simple blog site. Its pretty easy to use. Still need to learn a lot of the details but so far, just using the ‘Write’ tool will be enough.

Looked into and started a little bit of work with Tiddlywiki. This is one really..unique..web page. It has an interface i’ve never seen before but looks interesting. The page itself is pretty bland, so might attempt editing the page on its visuals. Not sure how though.
